THERAPY FOR ANXIETY

All of our therapists specialize in anxiety disorders.

Are you experiencing anxiety or persistent worry? Are you anxious about socializing, dating, or your relationship? Does your job make you anxious? Perhaps you worry about being prepared for the future or you ruminate about things that have already happened.

Anxiety is often accompanied by physical sensations like rapid heart beat, difficulty breathing, and a "fight, flight, or freeze" response. You might have difficulty sleeping, eating, or struggle to function to your fullest in everyday life.

Here in NYC, anxiety is the #1 mental health issues we see and includes general anxiety, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and social anxiety. When it gets out of control, anxiety can be crippling and prevent you from living a full life. Therapy can help you understand you triggers and learn concrete skills to manage it. We use evidence-based methods to help you cope with your symptoms and live your best life.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

People with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) display excessive anxiety or worry, most days for at least 6 months, about a number of things such as personal health, work, social interactions, and everyday routine life circumstances. The fear and anxiety can cause significant problems in areas of their life, such as social interactions, school, and work.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

OCD is a mental illness that causes repeated unwanted thoughts or sensations (obsessions) or the urge to do something over and over again (compulsions). Some people can have both obsessions and compulsions.

People with OCD have thoughts or actions that:

  • Take up at least an hour a day

  • Are beyond your control

  • Aren’t enjoyable

  • Interfere with work, your social life, or another part of life

Social Anxiety (Social Phobia)

Everyday interactions cause significant anxiety, self-consciousness and embarrassment because you fear being scrutinized or judged negatively by others.Fear and anxiety lead to avoidance that can disrupt your life. Severe stress can affect your relationships, daily routines, work, school or other activities.

People with panic disorder have recurrent unexpected panic attacks. Panic attacks are sudden periods of intense fear that come on quickly and reach their peak within minutes. Attacks can occur unexpectedly or can be brought on by a trigger, such as a feared object or situation

A phobia is an intense fear of—or aversion to—specific objects or situations. Although it can be realistic to be anxious in some circumstances, the fear people with phobias feel is out of proportion to the actual danger caused by the situation or object.
